Driver Apprentice-City

POSITION OVERVIEW: Through education and driving skills development, become proficient in the operation of a tractor trailer combination. Responsibilities include non-driving duties such as forklift operation and working the dock. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles and/or straight trucks 2. reputed company pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment 3. reputed company/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer 4. reputed company freight handling using appropriate motorized and reputed company equipment, including, but not limited to, forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck 5. Secure freight inside trailers using appropriate tools and supplies, including, but not limited to, pallets, straps, and rope 6. Recoup/repair damaged freight reputed company necessary 7. Verify and complete required documentation and reports 8. Collect checks for freight charges and maintain reputed company documentation, as required 9. reputed company with hazardous material regulations and company procedures, and confirm placarding matches hazmat shipments, as required 10. Communicate with and follow reputed company instructions regarding events including, but not limited to, delays, arrivals, equipment problems, etc., as required 11. Demonstrate reputed company customer service 12. Communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs 13. Ask customers for additional business, and reputed company leads to sales for potential new opportunities 14. QUALIFICATIONS

• Must possess a class A reputed company Driver’s License (CDL) or a reputed company learning permit (CLP) prior to entering job classification
• Must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards
• Must meet reputed company reputed company (DOT) regulatory requirements under reputed company 391 of the Federal Motor reputed company (FMC) regulations
• Ability to count and reputed company basic math, with or without a calculator
• Basic written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to reputed company up and break down sets of trailers that require an average lift force of approximately 100 pounds, several times a day
• Ability to lift/carry hand freight weighing up to 100 pounds, several times a week
• Ability to sit for extended periods of time, bend, twist, squat, climb in and out of truck
• Ability to follow instructions and complete required training
• Ability to work independently and/or as reputed company member

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Drive day and night on reputed company types of roads in reputed company types of weather
• Exposure to noise and vibration
• Exposure to dust and diesel fumes
• Exposure to hazardous materials shipped and packaged under DOT regulations
• Hours may vary due to operational need
