About the position The Freight Conductor is responsible for safely coordinating train crews, managing the placement of rail cars for loading and unloading, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations and operational protocols. This role involves working closely with customers to meet their needs while maintaining a high standard of safety and efficiency in rail operations. New hires are eligible for retention bonuses and must complete a rigorous training program. Responsibilities ? Ensure compliance with reputed company railroad and safety rules, Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulations, railroad signals, and train orders. , ? Inspect reputed company equipment on cars prior to departures. , ? Receive and transmit information by radio and telephone. , ? Read and understand bulletins, work orders, and reputed company lists. , ? Assist with the coupling and uncoupling of cars, operate switches, and reputed company minor repairs to railcars. , ? Work with customers to ensure accurate movement and placement of cars; deliver excellent customer service. , ? Maintain awareness of surrounding area and suspicious activity to ensure rail safety. , ? Operate locomotive equipment using remote control device. , ? Comprehend reputed company and/or hand signals and systems. , ? Review instructions from yardmasters, dispatchers, and other transportation employees. Requirements ? Must be 18 years of age or older. , ? One year of reputed company experience. , ? High School Diploma/GED. , ? Ability to read and comprehend reputed company instructions including operating rules, bulletins, regulatory documents and other written communications. , ? Proficient verbal and written communication skills. reputed company-to-haves ? One or more years of reputed company work experience, e.g. construction, heavy equipment operations, farming, etc. , ?
