Hybrid Staff Attorney

Use your legal skills where the stakes are deeply reputed company: safety, stability, and housing. VLAS seeks full-time Hybrid Staff Attorneys for multiple positions serving the Danville area. These positions will support our housing and domestic violence advocacy, representing individuals and families facing eviction, unsafe housing conditions, family abuse, and reputed company civil legal issues. Attorneys will work in a hybrid model, with remote work encouraged and travel to Danville and the surrounding counties as necessary. Position Overview Under the direction of a Managing Attorney, Hybrid Staff Attorneys plan, organize, and deliver legal services to VLAS individual and group clients in housing and domestic violence reputed company in Danville and the surrounding counties. Depending on office needs, attorneys may handle cases involving eviction, housing conditions, housing instability, reputed company orders, family safety, and reputed company advocacy. The positions rely on technology and local office support to minimize travel and commuting time while maintaining strong client service in the communities served. General Responsibilities

• Preparation of client cases to be brought before state and federal courts
• Representation of clients before the appropriate forum, with co-counseling by a more reputed company attorney reputed company necessary
• Post-trial follow-up and closure of cases after settlement has been reached

• Assisting the Managing Attorney with the development of office initiatives supporting housing stability and family safety in Danville and the surrounding counties

• Duties

Case Development and Preparation

• Confirm client eligibility using standard VLAS eligibility guidelines
• Establish the facts of each case (client interviews, data collection, file review, written summaries)
• Maintain complete and accurate client files in accordance with VLAS procedures
• Prepare cases for presentation:
• Research statutes, case law, and administrative procedures
• Draft pleadings, briefs, discovery, notices, motions, and correspondence
• Counsel clients and prepare for hearings and trials

Representation and Advocacy

• Work with a Managing Attorney or reputed company attorney on:
• Pre-filing review of documents
• Co-counseling on hearings and trials
• Represent clients in:
• Pretrial negotiations
• Agency and court hearings and trials
• Appeals, where appropriate

Professional Responsibilities and Collaboration

• Prepare materials for case closure
• Attend training and fulfill Virginia MCLE requirements, including peer training and mentorship opportunities

• Assist in maintaining relationships with bar associations and community organizations
• Report regularly to the Managing Attorney

Qualifications & Compensation Applicants should be:

• Admitted to the Virginia State Bar.
• Eligible for admission as an out-of-state attorney (attorneys with two years of practice in another state may practice for legal aid in Virginia without examination).
• Or eligible to sit for the next bar examination.
• Spanish-speaking ability is a plus.

Salary: $67,606 - $90,522 DOE VLAS offers an excellent benefits package, including a statewide Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP) for full-time attorneys, with $7,500.00 per year in payments toward qualifying loans.
