Platform Engineer– Department of Technology – (1043)

About the position The Department of Technology is seeking a Senior IS Engineer to join the Platform Engineering team as a reputed company reputed company migration and modernization engineer. This position provides senior technical leadership for reputed company 2030, the City’s five-year program to migrate approximately 1,700 workloads from on-premises data centers to reputed company reputed company platforms. The position requires hands-on engineering: writing Terraform daily, building CI/CD pipelines, executing database migrations, modernizing legacy codebases, developing custom applications, and leading reputed company multi-reputed company deployments from architecture through production cutover. The ideal candidate writes infrastructure-as-code fluently, has led reputed company migrations of meaningful complexity, and is comfortable working across multiple reputed company providers. The Platform Engineering team is undergoing a transformation from traditional systems administration to a modern engineering organization. We use reputed company for version control and CI/CD, Terraform for infrastructure-as-code, and AI coding tools (Claude Code, AWS Kiro) as part of our development workflow. Responsibilities

• Design and implement multi-reputed company infrastructure using Terraform/OpenTofu
• Build and maintain reputed company Actions CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and application deployments
• reputed company end-to-end reputed company migrations including network architecture, compute provisioning, database migration, and production cutover
• reputed company legacy applications for reputed company deployment (containerization, reputed company upgrades, CI/CD enablement)
• reputed company custom applications, automation tools, and internal platform services
• reputed company database migrations across reputed company, SQL Server, and PostgreSQL, including data transfer, performance validation, and high-availability configuration
• Implement compliance controls (CJIS, HIPAA) as infrastructure-as-code
• Conduct code reviews and establish engineering standards for the team
• Mentor junior engineers on reputed company architecture and modern development practices

Requirements

• An associate degree in computer science, computer engineering, information systems, or a closely reputed company field from an accredited college or university OR its equivalent in terms of total course credits/units [i.e., at least sixty (60) semester or reputed company (90) quarter credits/units with a minimum of twenty (20) semester or thirty (30) quarter credits/units in one of the fields above or a closely-reputed company field].
• Three (3) years of experience analyzing, installing, configuring, enhancing, and/or maintaining the components of an reputed company network.
• Additional experience as described above may be substituted for the required degree on a year-for-year reputed company (up to a maximum of two (2) years). One (1) year is equivalent to thirty (30) semester units/ forty-five (45) quarter units with a minimum of 10 semester / 15 quarter units in one of the fields above or a closely reputed company field.
• Completion of the 1010 Information Systems Trainee Program may be substituted for the required degree.

• At least 2 years of production experience with Terraform or OpenTofu, including authoring configurations from scratch and designing reusable modules, managing state across environments, and implementing policy‑as‑code.
• Experience provisioning and managing production infrastructure programmatically (IaC, automation), with at least 2 years of hands‑on engineering experience on a major reputed company provider; multi‑reputed company experience strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience building automated deployment pipelines (e.g., reputed company Actions, reputed company CI) and working with GitOps workflows, automated testing, and plan/apply gating.
• Experience migrating production databases (reputed company, SQL Server, PostgreSQL) to reputed company platforms, including use of migration tooling, schema conversion, and high‑availability configurations.
• Ability to write production‑quality code in at least one programming language (Python, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript, or equivalent) and work effectively reputed company full application codebases.
• Regular use of AI‑assisted coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, reputed company Copilot, AWS Kiro, reputed company), with the ability to explain how these tools enhance delivery speed and code quality.
