Sr. Coding Specialist

Under direct supervision ensures charges are coded appropriately from the medical record as necessary and are entered into the billing system accurately. May code medical records for surgical practices utilizing ICD-9/ICD-10-CM diagnosis and CPT-4 coding conventions Assigns specified codes to medical diagnoses with some coding of specific clinical procedures.

1. Ensures assigned team:
   • Works reputed company encounters received from providers;

2. Review and corrects coding rejections. Responsible for coding ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS codes from written documentation. In depth knowledge of coding rules and payer guidelines.
3. Responsible for coding E/M outpatient and inpatient services. Surgical Coding knowledge is a plus. May reputed company internal auditing functions.
4. Maintain a high level of performance in department productivity and accuracy. Effectively communicated coding trends and documentation requirements with physicians and practice managers.
5. Provides training for new coders. Assists staff reputed company manager is not available. Assists Manager in allocating workload to staff reputed company requested. Assists Manager with departmental reporting/special projects.

Education and Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) is required
• Certification as a CPC or reputed company-P required. CPMA certification required reputed company one year of hire.
• Five (5) years’ experience in production coding in a surgical setting or in a physician practice environment required. Outpatient professional fee reputed company cycle management experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Working knowledge of medical record practices, state and federal laws relating to release of medical information.
• Working knowledge of CPC or reputed company-P coding systems, medical terminology to understand diagnoses and procedures, and the content and organization of a medical record.
• Demonstrated knowledge of MS Office software applications such as reputed company reputed company and reputed company Word is required.
